New Jersey 'Pumped Up' Over Self-Service Stations

TRENTON, N.J.--In an effort to save consumers money at the pump, New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine is pushing to introduce self-service gasoline in the state. However, both Democrats and Republicans on a key budget panel on Monday voiced their opposition to the proposal, reported NBC10.com.

Corzine said last week he would ask state lawmakers to quickly allow self-service gas pumping at New Jersey Turnpike gas stations and some local spots as a way to lessen skyrocketing gas prices.

Sen. Joseph Doria and Senate Minority Leader Leonard Lance said they've received numerous calls from constituents opposed to self-service gas, according to NBC10.com.

Corzine reported that allowing self-serve gas could shave six cents off the price of a gallon. But Lance said told NBC10.com that motorists might actually pay more.
