New SavOn Opens in Upstate New York

VERONA BEACH, N.Y. -- The Oneida Indian Nation's SavOn chain of stores opened its new Verona Beach, N.Y., location, which will stay open 24 hours and features 12 gas pumping stations.

The new store features Stone Hearth Bakery & Deli, which offers hot and cold sandwiches,

fresh-baked breads, rolls and pastries, homemade potato chips, soups and salads. The store also offers Abbott's Frozen Custard and Krispy Kreme donuts.

Kevin Connelly, manager of business operations and development for the Oneida Indian Nation, said the store provides a model for future store openings.

"Everything worked out very well and went very smoothly," Connelly said. "The staff has been well-trained and the comments from people have been very positive. A lot of people worked very hard over the past several months to make this happen, and you can see it today in every aspect of the store."

Outside the store, 12 gas pumping stations and four diesel stations accommodate the demand for fuel, and a parking lot and driveways eliminate traffic back-ups.

"Everything about this location is designed to make it easier, safer, and more convenient to get around," Connelly said. "We have a better traffic pattern and more fueling stations, and there's plenty of room for cars outside and for people to move around inside. Even the coffee station is designed to eliminate congestion ? you pour your coffee, then if you need creamer or sugar, you move to the counter behind you so other people can pour their coffee."

The new store will offer special prices on gasoline for a limited time as part of its opening celebration.

The Oneida, N.Y.-based Oneida Indian Nation's SavOn chain operates 13 convenience stores in New York State.
