Marsh Posts Fifth Consecutive Quarterly Revenue Gain

INDIANAPOLIS -- Marsh Supermarkets Inc., the operators of 162 Village Pantry convenience stores and 119 supermarkets under various brands, reported its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2005.

The company's total revenues for the quarter ended Jan. 1,

2005, jumped to $403.6 million from $388.8 million in the same period last year. Net income rose to $2.7 million from $2.3 million for the comparable period in fiscal 2004.

"As our third quarter results demonstrate, Marsh has continued to operate profitably in an environment that remains challenging competitively and economically," said Don E. Marsh, chairman and CEO. "Although higher fuel prices drove much of our revenue growth for the third quarter, our continued investment in new and remodeled stores also contributed to growth in revenues for the third quarter of fiscal 2005, which represented our fifth consecutive quarterly increase in revenues."

The company said it did close one Village Pantry store in Linden, Ind., during the quarter.
