Golden Books Family Entertainment Home Video & Audio is supporting the June 30 release of the Madeline Collection, of animated videos with a sweepstakes, airline discount certificates and point of sale materials. Consumers will also receive a rebate
on the Madeline's Favorite Songs cassette or compact disc from Sony Wonder. The collection, including Madeline and the 40 Thieves and Madeline and the New House, is being released to coincide with the live-action Madeline movie starring Francis McDormand. Each title has a suggested retail price of $9.98.
WARNER
Warner Home Video will launch Quest for Camelot Sing Along and Looney Tunes Sing Along to the sell-through market on May 19. Quest for Camelot features songs from the soon-to-be-released movie of the same name and The Wizard of Oz. Each title is priced at $12.95. Warner has joined with Tyson Chicken and Kraft Macaroni and Cheese on joint promotions, and the studio will place more than $150 worth of value-added savings into each cassette.
Warner is releasing three volumes of South Park, the hit cartoon on the Comedy Central cable network, to sell-through. Each tape, priced at $14.95, includes two episodes.
PARAMOUNT
Paramount Home Video and Nickelodeon will offer Blue's Clues, the winner of the Parent's Choice Gold Award, on June 9 to the sell-through market. Designed for pre-school children, the title has a price point of $19.95.
Paramount will release John Grisham's The Rainmaker to the rental market on May 26. The title stars Matt Damon, Danny DeVito and Claire Danes. Switchback, starring Dennis Quaid and Danny Glover, will be released to the rental market on June 16.
MGM
MGM is releasing Tomorrow Never Dies, the latest James Bond movie, to the rental market on May 12. The title, which stars Pierce Brosnan and Teri Hatcher, will be supported by MGM's biggest rental advertising campaign ever. Joey, a family title starring Ed Begley Jr., will be released to sell-through on June 16 at $14.95. It is being supported by a $3 rebate offer with the purchase of Joey and Fluke, which has been re-priced to $14.95.
MGM is adding a number of titles to its Movie Time Collection at sell-through prices of $9.95 each. Among them are Mulholland Falls, The Delta Force, Foxes and The Pope of Greenwich Village.
Orion Home Entertainment, a division of MGM, is releasing Fall, a modern-day romance starring Eric Schaeffer and Amanda De Cadenet, to the rental market on June 2. The title is being supported by a national advertising campaign.
POLYGRAM
PolyGram Video and Major League Baseball have joined to offer several video titles. Available on May 19, Unforgettable Finishes and Greatest World Series Moments each have a suggested retail price of $19.98. On June 23, PolyGram will release Super Sluggers 2 and Even More Unbelievable at price points of $14.95. MLBeat, a music-theme title priced at $19.95, will be released on July 7. The Official 1998 World Series Home Video will be released in November at a $19.95 price point. The titles will be supported by television spots on baseball broadcasts on the Fox Network and ESPN throughout the season.
PolyGram will release Los Locos and No Looking Back to the rental market in May and June.
DISNEY
Buena Vista Home Video is releasing The Wonderful World of Disney collection, featuring Toothless, Angels in the Endzone and The Garbage-Picking Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon, to the sell-through market. Each title is priced at $19.99 and will be released on May 19. On June 2, Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins, Sword in the Stone, Pete's Dragon and Robin Hood are each being re-priced to $22.99.
Sell-through titles to be released on July 7 are Nothing to Lose, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, Gone Fishin' and Swingers. Each is priced at $19.99.
Buena Vista's Summer Fun '98 rental program features 11 titles. In June, Buena Vista will release Scream 2, Mouth to Mouth, The Wings of the Dove, The Rage, Welcome to Sarajevo and Mr. Magoo. In July, Good Will Hunting, Phantoms, Four Days in September, Krippendorf's Tribe and Children of the Corn V will be released.
FOX
Fox Home Entertainment will release Home Alone 3, the latest sequel to the Home Alone series, to sell through on June 2. The title is priced at $19.98. Fox is supporting the title with an instant winner game offer as well as a marketing campaign that includes national television, radio and print advertising. Consumers can get a $6 mail-in rebate when they purchase the new title with the previous two Home Alone videos.
UNIVERSAL
Universal is adding The Lawless Breed, Canyon Passage, Tomahawk and Man in the Shadow to its Western Collection on June 9. The House of the Seven Gables, The Great Gatsby, Great Expectations and All My Sons will be added to the Cinema Classics collection on May 26. Four comedies, The Pink Jungle, The Major and the Minor, You Gotta Stay Happy and Brass Bottle, will be released to sell-through on May 26 at $14.98 each.
