Winn-Dixie appoints chief execs
Jacksonville, Fla.-based Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. has tapped several executives from outside the supermarket industry for two key positions. Bennett Nussbaum, who most recently served as e.v.p. and c.f.o. at Burger King Corp., will become
c.f.o. He succeeds Richard P. McCook, who has resigned after 20 years of service at Winn-Dixie.
Paul Novak, who previously held development roles at Burger King and several leading hotel chains, will serve as chief development officer at Winn-Dixie. In this role Novak will be responsible for all of Winn-Dixie's real estate, design, and construction efforts, and asset management for the company's 1,078 stores. His primary tasks include defining the company's core markets, reviewing noncore markets and developing strategies for exiting these markets, and helping Winn-Dixie create a unique brand position. Both Nussbaum and Novak will report to Winn-Dixie's president and c.e.o., Frank Lazaran.
Bozzuto's promotes v.p.
Bozzuto's, Inc., the Cheshire, Conn.-based wholesale food distributor, has named Steven Heggelke to the newly created position of s.v.p. of merchandising and advertising. Heggelke, who previously served as Bozzuto's v.p. of merchandising and procurement, says he aims to help bring a common focus to Bozzuto's merchandising functions, to benefit its retail customers. In his new role he will continue to report to George Motel, e.v.p. of retail development.
Nash Finch's c.o.o. resigns
Nash Finch Company has announced the resignation of Jerry L. Nelson, its president and c.o.o. Nelson, who joined the company in September 1999, said the time was right to consider "doing something different," although he did not announce any immediate plans. Nash Finch didn't name a successor, but the company announced that David Bersie, s.v.p. of food distribution, would begin reporting directly to c.e.o. Ron Marshall.
Minyard promotes advertising v.p.
Coppell, Texas-based Minyard Food Stores, Inc. has promoted Randy Shuffield, a 21-year company veteran, to s.v.p. of advertising. Shuffield was previously v.p. of advertising.
