Penn. Has More One Stop Shops On Tap

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The paring of state-run liquor outlets with supermarkets continues in the Keystone State, with the latest One Stop Shop making its debut in the Super Fresh supermarket on County Line Rd. in Huntingdon Valley, Pa.

The suburban Philadelphia Super Fresh One Stop Shop is the 12th unit to open thus far, according to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB), which has been rolling out the full-service wine and spirits stores within grocery stores since last year to great success. The agency said it has approved leases for six more units, including two additional suburban Philadelphia Acme Markets at Routes 29 and 23 in Phoenixville and Routes 3 and 252 in Newtown Square.

The Phoenixville Acme One Stop store will measure 3,123-sq.-ft. and the Newtown Square store will measure 2,729-sq.-ft. Both stores are expected to open by early 2006.

In addition to the 12 already opened and the two approved today, the Board has approved leases for six additional One Stop Shops scheduled to open later this year or early next year.

The PLCB also negotiated a lease for space within Schiel's Family Market in Wilkes-Barre. The 4,000-square-foot store is expected to open in Spring 2006.

"This store will offer a new level of service to Luzerne County consumers," said PLCB chairman Jonathan Newman. "In these days of busy schedules and high gasoline prices, our consumers are very excited about the convenience of buying wine, spirits, and groceries at one stop."
