University President Joins Meijer Board of Directors
GRAND RAPIDS -- Meijer, Inc. said Friday that Mark Murray, president of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. had been elected to the Meijer board of directors.
"Mark adds a unique perspective to our board and strengthens our corporate leadership team,"
said Meijer co-chairman/c.e.o. Hank Meijer in a statement. "He brings years of leadership in state and local government, education and finance."
Before becoming president of the university in 2001, Murray had a distinguished career in the state and local government, serving as Michigan state treasurer, state budget director, director of the department of management and budget, and acting director of the Family Independence Agency.
"I look forward to working with Meijer to continue to strengthen its position as an independent, privately held company in an ever more competitive retail market," said Murray.
Meijer operates 163 stores throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio.
