The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) has created CIAKids.com, an interactive Web site for children who love to cook and bake, watch cooking shows, and aspire to be chefs. Launched in September, the mission is to inspire and nurture in young people a love for culinary and baking and pastry arts in
a fun and informative way.
"With so many kids today using computers for both learning and entertainment, CIAKids.com is a great way to reach them and teach them," said Web Manager Donna Lioy. "In addition to being entertained, kids will learn about the qualities that create successful chefs or grown-ups in any field."
The site educates children about mathematics, nutrition, food safety, and more by featuring games and puzzles, a culinary dictionary, interviews with celebrity chefs, information about chef's tools, and much more. Areas of the site are organized according to experience level, with one toque for beginners, two for intermediate-level chefs, and three toques for advanced ones.
Children may also join the free Club CIA to receive a cooking tool, a chef's toque, a membership certificate, and information about cooking classes for pre-teens and teens. The site also includes a resource area for parents and educators.
