Red Lobster Offers More Nutrition Disclosure

Red Lobster is providing customers with greater--though not complete--nutrition disclosure via a new menu it will unveil on Monday, the company said.

The LightHouse menu lists fat, calorie and carbohydrate counts for "over 30" appetizers, entrees and side dishes, Red

Lobster said. That would represent less than half of the chain's total menu. There are 40 entrees alone on Red Lobster's current board of fare.

U.S. lawmakers are considering bills to require chain restaurants to disclose fat and calories on menus.

One casual-dining chain, Ruby Tuesday, is providing nutritional information on every item it sells. Other chains appear content to offer a partial glimpse into their culinary offerings.

"Americans want healthier food, but they also want it to taste great," said Red Lobster president Kim Lopdrup in a statement. "Our new LightHouse Menu gives them what they're looking for."

Another Darden Restaurants brand, Seasons 52, provides entrees that fit within fat and calorie guidelines set by the National Institutes of Health.

Red Lobster operates 670 restaurants across the U.S. and Canada.
