The Culinary Institute of America has named Tim Ryan to succeed Ferdinand Metz as the institution's president.
Ryan, a longtime educator and administrator at the CIA's campus here, was widely expected to assume the role. However, the school had spent 10 months reviewing
candidates, and did not disclose Ryan's selection until its annual meeting this past weekend.
Ryan currently serves as executive vice president and will move up to his new post on Nov. 1. He is the Institute's fifth president and the first alumnus to hold the post. Ryan graduated in 1977 and is currently ranked a master chef.
Metz, who had headed the Institute since 1980, will step into a fund-raising role for the school, with the title of president emeritus. He announced his resignation late in 2000, without citing any specific reasons for the move.
