New Canaan, Conn.—The treasure hunt is on.

Readers of the Secrets of the Alchemist Dar, which hit stores Sept. 26, were invited to commence searching for more than $2 million worth of hidden jewelry.

The book, written by Michael Stadther,

includes 100 puzzles that provide instructions on finding one of 100 rings designed by jeweler Aaron Basha and appraised by master gemologist Don Palmieri, president of Gem Certification and Assurance Lab.

The crown jewel of prizes is a .59-carat, radiant-cut red diamond "Fairy" ring set in 18-karat rose gold with 52 fancy intense pink and natural pink diamonds weighing .79 carats, valued at $1 million.

Next in line are three $120,000 blue diamond "Fairy" rings with .54-carat oval brilliant-cut natural fancy intense blue diamonds set in 18-karat white gold, surrounded by 52 natural light to fancy blue diamonds, weighing in at a total of .82 carats.

Four $50,000 yellow diamond "Fairy" rings feature natural fancy vivid yellow diamond rings set in 18-karat gold with 1.01-carat yellow diamonds and 38 round full-cut natural fancy vivid yellow diamonds, weighing .72 carats.

Other prizes include five pink diamond "Fairy" rings worth $20,000 each; and 87 yellow diamond "Ladybug" rings worth $5,000 each.

Stradther sparked a nationwide treasure hunt last year with the publication of his first book, A Treasure's Trove, which allowed readers to interpret clues to find real-life jewels hidden throughout the country. The book went on to become a New York Times best seller.

Both books try to appeal to children and adults. Secrets of the Alchemist Dar takes place in an enchanted world of fairies, spells, eclipses, fortunes and hidden treasures. The story features the evil Alchemist Dar, who wants his dark fairies to live forever by stealing the good fairies' rings of life. Dar attempts to kill the good fairies by using the mysterious Book of Dark Spells.

The English-language version of Secrets of the Alchemist Dar is published by Treasure Trove, Inc., and distributed by Simon Scribbles, a division of Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing.
