GIA debuts its new digital microscope

The Gemological Institute of America's new digital-circuitry microscope—an industry first—made its debut at the American Gem Trade Association GemFair in Tucson.

The instrument features solid-state, digitally controlled lighting for maximum contrast and clarity, enabling

it with the highest quality illumination and largest field of view of any microscope currently on the market, says GIA.

Enhanced field of view provides for more efficient evaluation, as diamonds may be viewed in their entirety. User-friendly, ergonomic design allows adjustment for viewer positioning and comfort. A redesigned power supply allows the unit to be rotated without running afoul of its own cord, a boon when showing stones to customers over a counter.
