GIA expands into Madagascar

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced it will provide extension program classes in both Florida and Madagascar starting this month.

An additional Diamond Grading segment will be offered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from June 13-17. The class enables

distance education students to fulfill requirements for GIA's Graduate Gemologist degree.

Three core gemology classes will also be available in Antananarivo, Madagascar, in cooperation with that country's Ministry of Energy and Mines. Colored Stone Grading is offered June 29-July 1; Gem Identification will be held July 4-8 and Diamond Grading is scheduled for July 11-15.

Interested students in the U.S can call (800) 421-7250, ext. 4001, to register. For information on the Madagascar sessions, registration is available through the Institut de Gemmologie de Madagascar, by e-mailing: igm@wanadoo.mg
