The 31st German Award for Jewellery and Precious Stones along with the 12th anniversary for the German Youth Talent Competition for Gemstone and Jewellery Design attracted designers from 16 countries with 110 entries. The theme for the 2000 German award was 'the fascinating underwater world' with designs

created in precious metals and stones with shimmering color reflections inspired by the sea. Pearls were included but only when employed with precious stones. For the Youth Design Competition the theme was 'a day at the seaside' with light-hearted and more whimsical creations also employing pearls, precious stones and metals. This competition included 79 creations, with entries from Germany, Switzerland and Italy. The awards carry cash prizes, which were presented at the Bourse Hall of the Diamond and Precious Stones Bourse on November 3rd 2000.
