Wal-Mart is ranked No. 1 in the National Retail Federation's 2007 list of the Top 100 Retailers. The survey, sponsored by SAP, concludes that Wal-Mart remains the most influential retailer in the nation. When the discounter says it is going back to what it does best, this means, according to the survey, that the lower-price space will be controlled -- perhaps exclusively -- by Wal-Mart.
The nine retailers ranked just below Wal-Mart are:
2. Home Depot
3. Kroger
4. Costco
5. Target
6. Sears Holdings
7. Walgreens
8. Lowe's
9. CVS
10. Safeway
There will be more on the survey in tomorrow's Retail Strategies.
