Sony Looks to U.S. Discounters

UK -- Sony is changing its strategy of selling its products only at specialty retailers, according to the UK-based Retail Bulletin.

While Sony will continue its distribution through U.S. specialty retailers like Best Buy and Circuit City, it hopes to take a

share of the market which South Korean and Chinese electronics manufacturers have built by supplying chains such as Wal-Mart, Target and Costco.

A Sony spokesman told the Associated Press news agency that the company wants to carry out business with Wal-Mart and Costco more aggressively. The Retail Bulletin says this reflects the increasing dominance of U.S. value retailers, as well as an increasingly competitive sales environment.
