DEERFIELD, IL -- Walgreen Co. svp, general counsel and corporate secretary Julian A. Oettinger will retire January 12, 2005, at the company's annual meeting. Replacing him will be Dana I. Green, currently Walgreens svp of human resources.
Oettinger started with Walgreens
as an attorney in 1967, three years after earning his law degree at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. He was named director of law in 1978 and general counsel in 1989.
Green joined Walgreens as an attorney in employee relations in 1974 upon graduation from Indiana University School of Law. In 1990, she completed a master's of law in taxation at DePaul University, Chicago. Green was promoted to director of employee relations before being named dvp in 1998 and has been in her current corporate officer position since 2000. She was promoted to svp earlier this year.
Replacing Green as vp of human resources is Ken Weigand, currently dvp of performance development. Weigand is a graduate of the University of Illinois and earned his law degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and his M.B.A. from Loyola University, Chicago. He joined Walgreens employee relations department as an attorney in 1983, became corporate manager of personnel in 1988, was promoted to dvp of employee relations in 2000 and named to his current position in 2003.
