BRISBANE, CA -- Wal-Mart announced the launch of its new online music store within Windows Media Player, now available nationwide at
www.walmart.com/musicdownloads.
Wal-Mart says that at 88¢ per song,
the new online music store provides significant value and delivers a seamless, easy-to-use service for customers to shop, download and enjoy music -- all within one application on their PCs.
Wal-Mart's online music store was announced as a service provider within Microsoft's first Digital Media Mall using Windows Media Player 10. Also, the online music store can be accessed directly within Windows Media Player 9 Series. The store allows customers to easily browse, sample, purchase, download, play, burn, transfer and organize music within one single application. Customers can still purchase and download music directly from
Walmart.com using the existing music downloads service that was launched in March and continues to be a popular choice for many music fans.
"Our new online music store combines the simplicity and convenience of a full-featured music player with Wal-Mart's every day low price of 88¢ per song," said Kevin Swint, Walmart.com's director of entertainment categories. "Customer response to our existing music downloads service continues to be extremely positive, and we're very pleased to offer this exciting new way for customers to shop and enjoy music."
Swint says that Wal-Mart's new online store delivers three main benefits:
Easy search and browse functionality to shop a deep catalog of music and to locate favorite titles and artists.
Fast checkout and download process to quickly purchase and enjoy music.
Integration with Windows Media Player to easily manage music libraries and playlists, burn songs to CDs and transfer music to compatible portable devices.
The music files are available in Windows Media Audio, and usage rights are uniform across the entire catalog of music.
