Wal-Mart Shoppers Are Bush Supporters

A higher percentage of president Bush loyalists shop at Wal-Mart then those supporting Senator Kerry for president, according to an online poll conducted this month by BIGresearch as part of its Consumer Intentions and Actions Study.

Given Wal-Mart's geographical dominance

in the nation's more conservative southern states, the findings are hardly a surprise.
At the three stores shopped most often for women's clothing by consumers answering the poll, Wal-Mart had by far the highest percentage of Bush supporters (23.5% vs. 16% Kerry supporters) compared to JCPenney (6.5% Bush supporters; 5.1% Kerry) and Kohl's (6% Bush; 5.5% Kerry).

At the three stores shopped most often for electronics, Wal-Mart shoppers gave Bush a 22% to 16.5% edge; compared to Circuit City where Bush enjoyed only a 9% to 7% lead and Best Buy, where Kerry supporters outnumbered Bush supporters 33.5% to 28.5%.

Given the importance of health care in the national election, it is notable that among the top three stores consumers go to for prescription drugs, Bush supporters outnumber Kerry supporters at Wal-Mart, 12.5% to 7.5%, but trail Kerry among Walgreens shoppers 17% for Kerry vs. 14.5% for Bush and among CVS shoppers, 10.5% for Kerry vs. 8% for Bush.
