Ex-Rite Aid Exec's Sentencing Postponed

HARRISBURG, PA -- Sentencing for a convicted former Rite Aid Corp. executive was postponed because of scheduling conflicts.

U.S. Middle District Judge Sylvia H. Rambo delayed sentencing for former Rite Aid vice chairman Franklin C. Brown from August 30 to September

27, according to an Associated Press report.

Brown, 76, was convicted of 10 criminal counts in an October federal court trial and is free on bail. The jury convicted him of conspiracy, obstruction, lying to federal regulators and witness tampering.

Five other former Rite Aid officers have pleaded guilty to various criminal charges related to the investigation into accounting irregularities at the Camp Hill, PA-based pharmacy chain in the late 1990s. Four of them, including former ceo Martin L. Grass, received federal prison sentences of between one month and eight years.

A subsequent management team lowered the company's net earnings from 1998 and 1999 by $1.6 billion.
