Toys "R" Us President Greg Staley is Leaving

PARAMUS, NJ -- Toys "R" Us, the nation's biggest toy retail chain, said on Monday that president Gregory R. Staley is leaving the company for personal reasons, according to a Reuters report.

Toys "R" Us, which operates 1,601 stores worldwide, is now searching for a

successor, it said in a statement. The U.S. toy store division will report directly to ceo John Eyler until it finds a new president.

Staley leaves Toys "R" Us after working there for 13 years. He joined the company in 1989 as a vp and divisional merchandise manager for U.S. toy stores.

Earlier this month, Toys "R" Us said that holiday sales in its stores open at least a year fell slightly, and cut its fiscal 2002 earnings forecast. Its shares ended Friday at $10.50 on the New York Stock Exchange, sharply off their 52-week high of $20.71.
