Mara-Mi Inc. Moves Into New Headquarters In Minneapolis

Stationery and gift company Mara-Mi Inc. has moved into a new 46,000-square-foot headquarters in Minneapolis. The company has leased the property and an existing building at 1515 Central Avenue NE from Hillcrest Development. Northco Real Estate Services served as an advisor to Mara-Mi for this transaction.

Mara-Mi's new corporate headquarters will house its administrative and creative departments, and its assembly, distribution and warehouse operations. The company, which has occupied its previous Minneapolis facilities since 1993, has grown to become an $11-million business with a broad distribution throughout North America.

"We are bulging at the seams!" said John Hallberg, president and CEO of the company. "Our company is steadily growing year after year, and our new corporate offices will provide many enhancements to improve our overall efficiency as well as our creativity."

"We think we have found the perfect space for Mara-Mi," said Scott Tankenoff, managing partner of Hillcrest Development. "We have designed a unique environment for this creative company."

The renovated historic warehouse provides Mara-Mi with lots of room, plenty of light and very high ceilings, which intentionally expose interesting duct work and pipes. "The new building not only provides us with well-needed space, it also offers an inspiring working environment, necessary in our creative business," continued Hallberg.

Of the total square footage of the new building, the company will use approximately 30,000 square feet as warehouse space, with some of that earmarked for future growth.

Mara-Mi designs and manufactures five brands: The original Mara-Mi, a colorful, contemporary brand of boutique papers; George Stanley brand, traditional formal stationery products; Roobee, a mainstream brand of invitations and thank you cards; Zoomerang, the brand for kids; and Carly's Wish, trend-forward papers and gifts donating profits to charity, including contributions to the Family Violence Prevention Fund.
