CVS Executive Receives Award For Hiring Older Workers

Steven Wing, the director of government programs at CVS/pharmacy, has been recognized by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) with the National Association of Older Worker Employment Services' (NAOWES) 2002 Dorothy Bauer Award.

Since 1990, the NAOWES, a member of the

NCOA, has presented this award to recognize the outstanding leadership of an individual whose accomplishments, creative energy and commitment exemplify those of Dorothy Bauer, a pioneer in advancing the employment status of the nation's older workers.

CVS/pharmacy has developed one of the best records among American companies for hiring older employees. 15% of the company's 107,000 employees are older workers. Under Steven Wing's direction, CVS/pharmacy's Government Programs Department coordinates the recruitment, hiring and training of older individuals for employment at CVS, the largest retail pharmacy in America.

"Steven's efforts to recruit and train older workers for CVS play an important role in delivering excellent service to our customers," said Michael Ferdinandi, vp of organization and planning for human resources at CVS/pharmacy. "Older workers are very dependable, provide excellent service in our stores, and serve as positive role models for our younger employees. All of us at CVS congratulate Steven on receiving this award."

CVS operates more than 4,000 CVS/pharmacy stores; CVS ProCare, its specialty pharmacy business; CVS.com, its online pharmacy; and PharmaCare, its pharmacy benefit management company.
