Marshall Field's Fans Forge Forward

It seems to me that Macy's would make a lot of friends (and customers) by figuring out a way to give Marshall Field's back to the city that loves it.

It’s been nearly eight months since Federated Department Stores changed Chicago’s beloved Marshall Field’s to Macy’s, but Marshall Field’s fans have not given up in their quest to reverse the switcheroo and reinstate the Field’s name and traditions.

Yet another protest rally is scheduled for Sunday, May 6, under the great Marshall Field’s clock at the corner of State and Washington streets in downtown Chicago.

". . .Chicagoans have a deep resistance to the loss of Marshall Field’s name, Marshall Field’s way of doing business and Marshall Field’s significantly higher levels of quality and service," states a flyer from Fields Fans Chicago.

Taking inspiration from corporate reversals at other companies, Field’s Fans Chicago notes that, "Imperial CEOs, as at Home Depot, can be dethroned. Great brands, like the Ford Taurus, can be resurrected. . . .although Field’s is gone for now, it can indeed come back – just as Coke did when consumers rejected New Coke. It is only a matter of time until those visionary business and civic leaders with the needed clout come forward to do what needs to be done."

I have nothing against Macy’s, but it seems to me it would make a lot of friends (and customers) by figuring out a way to give Marshall Field’s back to the city that loves it.
