New Miart Foundation Host's the Premiere of ``OMNIART''.

MIAMI -- An Evening to Celebrate Renowned International Art Installations, Cutting Edge Music and the Unveiling of a New Artists Foundation in Collaboration With FIU

On Friday, December 3, 2004, between 10pm and 2am, a large scale Urban Intervention will occur on NE 13th street in downtown

Miami. This free and open-to-the-public event is called OMNIART and it sets out to commemorate the OMNI area as the head of Miami's Cultural Corridor. The theme; "The Neighborhood as Work of Art", will consist of a series of curated museum-style warehouse spaces featuring hot new artists, vacant lots morphed into sculpture and performance sites, and the street itself transformed into a dramatic venue for cutting edge art.

OMNIART is an outgrowth of "Paint the Town", a large scale urban intervention by Tina Spiro and Urban Planner Eran Spiro. The Spiros co-produced the highly acclaimed "Amigos" exhibition during Art Basel Miami Beach 2002. This year's event is funded by a grant from the City of Miami's CRA (Community Redevelopment Agency) to transform the Omni area into THE place for hot new urban artistic expression. As the principle organization of community redevelopment, the CRA has prioritized promoting the Omni Area as the New Important Cultural Venue in Miami.

Tina Spiro shares: "The vision of this precedent-setting five-block neighborhood cultural immersion is that it be utilized as the perfect backdrop to spotlight international installations by Tania Brugera of Cuba (Performance Art), Kaarina Kaikkonen of Finland (Installation), Carlos Betancourt and Edouard Duval-Carrie of Miami, McArthur Genius Grant recipient Inigo Manglano-Ovalle, and video artist Anne Wilson, star of the recent Whitney Biennial."

The event will be hosted by the new Miart Foundation, a non-for-profit Art Education Program/Atelier, functioning as a Fellowship Program of 10 to 12 highly qualified artists per year, Florida International University's department of Art and Art History, and the University of Miami's Art Department.

Sponsorship support is being provided by Merrill Lynch, Miami Realty Acquisitions, The Pawn Shop, Intrepid Real Estate Company, Urbana magazine and American Gift Corp.
