* Retailer Claire's Stores Inc. agreed to be acquired by an affiliate of New York-based private equity firm Apollo Management LP for $33 per share--approximately $3.1 billion. Pembroke Pines-based Claire's will no longer be a public company.

* New York-based Fortress Investment Group LLC paid $1.1 billion to buy Boca Raton-based RailAmerica Inc. and its 42 railroad operations in the US and Canada. The transaction takes RailAmerica private.
