Vermeer

Vermeer's compact HG20, a 20-ton winch with the power to pull up to 28 feet per minute, meets the growing need for larger diameter bursts up to 30 inches and larger. The HG20 winch, when combined with Vermeer's Hammerhead Mole tools, is the first

pneumatic pipe bursting system in its size class that can burst into a manhole, saving the expense of creating a receiving pit. The HG20 winch has cable capacity for 1,250 feet of 1-inch cable, and packs the power to provide over 40,000 pounds of continuous line pull with Vermeer's largest bursting tools. The downrigger that is placed into a manhole is cowered with the aid of the winch cable, making setup fast and easy. Powered by a 29-hp Kubota diesel engine, the trailer-mounted winch features a tandem-axle design and electric brakes. Controls are conveniently located and simple to operate, and the remote on/off control allows the operator flexibility to move about the work site. Eight of Vermeer's more than 20 tools are currently sized for replacing mainlines and laterals. Made of high-quality alloy steel, the tools are equipped to burst through existing lines without disturbing landscapes or normal traffic patterns. The Hammerhead Mole tool bursts through the existing line and is simultaneously connected to the winch located at a manhole or an exit pit.

Radiodetection

Radiodetection recently launched the DrillCheck system, a utility-based and operated damage prevention drill monitoring system. DrillCheck enables utility companies to safeguard buried cable during horizontal boring operations. The utility inspection operator positions the DrillCheck receiver in a predetermined area between the utility and the intended drill path. If the drill head crosses the line established by the receiver, an alarm is triggered. The operator can pin-point the position and depth of the drill head and compare the findings with that of the contractor. Once the alarm is triggered, all relevant information is stored in DrillCheck's version of a bore logger. The data can then be transferred and downloaded to a PC format. DrillCheck also can monitor the pullback operation of a bore using a special type of sonde/transmitter device that is placed between the back reamer and the product being placed in the ground. To help prevent utility damage, the operator can monitor pullback operation to ensure no change occurs. DrillCheck is compatible with all major manufacturers' directional drilling tracking systems.

Rammer

Model S 25N hydraulic hammer, updated from model S 25, provides improved productivity, durability and reliability. Working weight is 940 pounds and the unit is ideal for use on backhoe loaders and other popular carriers. The S 25N uses the Rammer Constant Blow Energy system which assures that all blows are at the full impact rate regardless of hydraulic pressure. The unit can accept a wide range of oil flows for easy installation on a wide range of carriers. In addition, the hammer system provides a high resistance to back pressure and a high blow frequency for excellent productivity. Slip-fit tool bushings are used for easy service and the lower tool bushing and tools are field replaceable without removing the hammer from the housing. Optional designs include the UNIRAM design which pin mounts directly to most backhoe loaders without any added brackets, making it ideal for rental applications; the sound suppressed Rammer CITY version; and the Ramlube automatic lubrication system with built-in air channels which allows the unit to be easily equipped for work underwater.

Ingersoll-Rand

The new LightSource portable light tower is specifically designed to meet the requirements of the rental market. With its standard 6 kW generator, the LightSource is capable of operating four, 1,000 watt metal-halide or high-pressure sodium floodlights for up to 68 hours of continuous operation. The standard metal-halide floodlights provide a NEMA six-beam spread for better light distribution. The control panel includes individual lamp switches, duplex and twist-lock receptacles, key-switch ignition and an hour meter. A low fuel level indicator light can be added as an option. The heavy-duty steel tower on the LightSource unit has a three-section mast that extends 12 to 30 feet. The mast is raised by dual, hand-operated winches or optional electric winches, and at full-mast with all four outrigger jacks secured, the unit can withstand winds up to 65 mph. The tower can be rotated 360 degrees and locked into position for precise aiming of floodlights. For traveling and storage, and to avoid unwanted telescoping, a patented system automatically locks the tower into place when in the horizontal position. Safe towing is ensured with a standard 2-inch ball and two-light towing package, side markers and reflectors. All critical wiring is extended to the drawbar to enable easy hook-up to the tow vehicle. The heavy-duty, 3,500-pound axle ensures trouble-free travel on and off the job site. The wide track and low center of gravity provide a high resistance to rollover. A Kubota engine coupled with a Leroy Somer generator provides the power for the new LightSource.

With superior compaction power and high travel speeds, the new Stow ST60 and ST70 rammers offer efficient, economical performance for a wide variety of applications. Featuring recoil starting systems, the rammers are powered by 3.5-hp, air-cooled, EPA-approved gasoline engines. With a 145-pound operating weight, the ST60 offers an impact force of 2,700 pounds and a 16-inch compaction depth. The 165-pound ST70 features a 3,150-pound impact force and 20-inch compaction depth. Both models offer frequencies of 600 to 720 blows per minute and maximum travel speeds of 50 feet per minute for increased efficiency and productivity. A reduce-vibration handle, mounted to the units with vibration-isolated buffers, allows for comfortable and safe operation during extended operating periods. The tamping foot for both models features high-strength polyethylene honeycomb construction to absorb shock and ensure stability and smooth operation. The ST60 has a 9-inch operating width, while the larger ST70 offers a standard operating width of 11 inches. Interchangeable shoe sizes of 6, 9, 11 and 13 inches are available as optional equipment on both models. Designed for the compaction of cohesive, semi-cohesive and granular soils, the ST60 and ST70 are ideal for utility and cable installations.

Amulet Manufacturing

Amulet recently introduced the Phantom Wedge-Lock quick coupler as a package assembly with the Amulet PowerClamp. This combination maximizes an excavator's versatility by allowing the machine operator to quickly switch between buckets or other attachments while maintaining full functionality of the PowerClamp thumb. The Phantom quick coupler and the PowerClamp share the same main pin, resulting in stability of the bucket load even during adjustment of the bucket curl position. The PowerClamp design maximizes the degree of clamp rotation and structural strength while keeping the attachment weight to a minimum. The Phantom Wedge-Lock quick coupler is available as a manually operated quick attach or as a fully hydraulic quick coupler. In most cases, the manual version can be upgraded to the fully hydraulic unit by simply replacing some of the internal quick coupler components and adding the hydraulic installation kit.

The Brief Relief Disposable Urinal Bag is used nationwide by outside plant personnel in utility and telecommunications companies. Designed to be a safe and sanitary alternative when the need to relieve oneself occurs where no other restroom is available, the Brief Relief Urinal Bag can be used by both male and female workers. A recent design change has replaced the plastic seal tube that acted as a final closure with a snap-lock channel built into an injection molded collar at the top of the bag itself. The collar also has a tab that folds over to lock the bag into its widest open position. The folded tab also becomes a handle during use. As a result of the change, American Innotek has reduced the list price of the product from $2.25 per unit to $1.75 per unit.
