Navy Rear Adm. Alan S. Thompson, has been assigned as commander of the Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio. Thompson is now strategic studies group fellow at the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.

Navy Rear Adm. Christopher W. Cole, has been nominated as director of

Navy Rear Adm. David Architzel has been named to replace Cole. Architzel is commander of the Naval Safety Center in Norfolk, and will continue in this position as additional duty.

Navy Rear Adm. Lindell G. Rutherford has been named commander of Carrier Group Four and commander of the Carrier Striking Force. Rutherford is director for operations, plans, policy and training at U.S. Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, Va.

Navy Rear Adm. James D. Kelly has been assigned to replace Rutherford. Kelly is now special assistant to commander of the Naval Air Force in the U.S. Pacific Fleet at San Diego, Calif.

Navy Rear Adm. Joseph Maguire has been nominated as chief of staff for the U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. Maguire is now deputy commander of the Naval Special Warfare Command in Coronado, Calif.

Larry Glasco, executive director of the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP), has been named executive director of readiness and customer support for the Defense Logistics in Fort Belvoir, VA.

Navy Capt. Michael G. Lilienthal assumed the directorship of the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office, in Washington, D.C. He replaced Army Col. William Forrest Crain. Lilienthal has served as the deputy director since June 29. Crain, who had been the director since March 2000, will retire.

Industry

Air Force Lt. Gen Robert F. Raggio (Ret) recently joined Dayton Aerospace, Inc., a technical services and consulting firm, as executive vice president. Prior to his retirement, he was commander of the Aeronautical Systems Center in Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Raggio was previously the program executive officer for fighters and bombers and the system program director for the F-22 fighter.

Boeing Satellite Systems, located in El Segundo, Calif., has named Art Rosales to become vice president of commercial programs. Rosales will be responsible for executing all BSS commercial programs to meet corporate and customer expectations. Most recently, Rosales was vice president and general manager for Fixed Satellite Systems and Broadcast Satellite Systems (FSS/BSS) programs.

Boeing also appointed John Konrad as vice president of commercial marketing and sales. Konrad has been with BSS his entire career, which began in 1976.

Northrop Grumman Corporation has appointed William J. Allison to become vice president and general manager of its newly-formed Navigation Systems Division in Woodland Hills, Calif. Previously, Allison had served as president of Litton's Integrated Systems.

Northrop Grumman also announced the appointment of Philip A. Dur as corporate vice president and president of the company's Ship Systems sector, the largest builder of non-nuclear ships for the U.S. Navy. He will assume his new position succeeding Jerry St. Pe, who is retiring.

E. Preston Rahe has been named executive vice president of business development for the Washington Group's government operating unit in Boise, Idaho. Rahe previously served as president of Westinghouse Government Environmental Services Company, a subsidiary that provides management services to the Energy and Defense Departments. He also served as chairman of Westinghouse Safety Management Solutions (WSMS).

L-3 Communications, located in Anaheim, Calif., announced that Robert Huffman has been named president of its Interstate Electronics Corporation (IEC) subsidiary. Huffman replaces Richard Tierney, who is retiring.

Carl F. Kohrt, former executive vice president and chief technology officer at Kodak, has been named president and CEO of Battelle in Columbus, Ohio. Kohrt will succeed Douglas E. Olesen, who retires later this year.
