Senior Editor Adrienne Fox, a member of the HR Magazine staff for six years, has taken on a new role as managing editor. In this position, Adrienne will assume new responsibilities that will help ensure the rest of us do our jobs within deadlines--so you can keep getting your magazine on time.
In addition, Ann Pomeroy, former managing editor of SHRM Professional Emphasis Group newsletters, has joined the magazine staff as senior writer. You are probably familiar with Ann's work, either through SHRM's newsletters or by reading her fine HR Magazine article on the practice of requiring medical interns to work ultra-long shifts ("The Doctor Is Still In," February 2002). We are happy to have Ann working full time on the magazine, and you will be, too, when you see her outstanding feature in this issue, "HR on 'The Ice,'" which begins on page 96.
Ann replaces Steve Bates, who contributed many in-depth analytical articles to HR Magazine during two years as senior writer. Steve has now taken on the role of managing editor for HR News Online, which posts daily news stories and updates on the SHRM web site. Readers still get the benefit of Steve's expertise, of course, since he still contributes to the magazine by synthesizing the month's top news stories for publication in our HR News section.
And after years of catching our mistakes (so you wouldn't see them), Gretchen Kraft has been promoted to copy desk chief. Gretchen's previous role as proofreader has been filled by a new face, Erin Binney, who brings an additional 10 years' publishing experience to our team. Together, Erin and Gretchen will bring even greater quality control to HR Magazine. In fact, they just changed the typo I inserted in this sentence.
