PICKUP TRUCK OFFERS HYBRID OPTION THAT GENERATES POWER

IMAGE PHOTOGRAPH 1

For reduced emissions and improved fuel economy (up to 10% over standard gasoline engines). Sierra full-sized pickup trucks offer hybrid option.

Available on 2- or 4-wheel-drive, extended-cab models. Includes 4, 120-v. auxiliary power outlets under rear seat of cab and in pickup bed, which turn vehicle into mobile power-generating station. Allows operation of power tools and equipment directly from outlets, without requiring a separate generator that consumes truckbed space. To conserve fuel, 14-kW. electric induction motor or starter generator assures fast starting and stopping, smoothes out driveline surges, generates electrical current to charge batteries and run auxiliary power outlets, and provides coastdown regenerative braking. Three lead-acid batteries store power for 42-v. module that drives vehicle's power steering, brakes, and other components. Built-in driver information center monitors and reports on up to 34 functions, including situations such as "ice possible" or "door ajar." Safety features include Passenger Sensing System that controls front-passenger air bag. Sierra pickup truck also comes in models that run on compressed natural gas (CNG) or E85 (a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline).
