Art Siemering, Food Futurist.

Art Siemering, the longtime editor and publisher of Noble & Associate's newsletter Food Channel Trendwire, died September 3, 2005. He was 64.

Siemering's flair for spotting trends in lifestyles, the economy, and even technology, and then translating those trends into meaningful

forecasts for the food industry, illustrated both the practical and the visionary sides of the futurist profession. He also worked with the nonprofit organization International Food Futurists, combining a specialist's expertise and the generalist's "big-picture" perspective.

THE FUTURIST frequently drew from Siemering's weekly newsletter for story leads and background information, and in recent years Siemering himself contributed two feature articles for the magazine: "Cooking Globally, Eating Whenever: The Future of Dining" (May-June 2004) and "Food Forecasts for 2050" (November-December 2000).

"By showing how cutting-edge ideas could be presented in ways that make sense to nonfuturists in a specific industry, Art carved out a niche that could be a model for professional futurists," noted FUTURIST managing editor Cindy Wagner. "Such a valuable contribution to the field of futurism is a worthy legacy."
