The youth boom in Asia will bring on youthful problems now, elderly problems later. The number of adolescents has at least doubled in nearly every Asian country since 1960. With programs encouraging delayed marriage and childbearing, a "young singles" culture is emerging, leading to riskier

behaviors such as smoking, drinking, and drug use. As these large youth populations age, future policy makers will deal with new problems, such as health care and social security.
