Worldwide POP advertising expenditures valued at $44 billion in 2002.

I.T. Strategies, Hanover, Mass., estimates worldwide POP advertising expenditures were $44 billion in 2002. Analog printing technologies (screen, offset, flexo, gravure and photo) made up more than three-fourths of the market; digital printing technologies (inkjet and electrophotography) about

25 percent. The dominant print technology was screen with 46 percent of the market, followed by inkjet with 18 percent.

Suppliers of printing to the POP industry include large manufacturing companies that produce in-store displays as well as packaging; smaller companies that offer design services in addition to printing; and others that offer fabrication and installation services as well as printing. What they have in common is they offer products and services to brand manufacturers and retailers looking to influence the customer at retail.
