Young Minds, Inc. (YMi) has announced the release of its new DVD Studio DVD-Recording solution. DVD Studio is available now and works with the Pioneer DVR-S201 DVD-R drive in all major open-system environments. These include most UNIX operating systems, such as Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Tru64, Linux, and
Jim Bolander, vice president of sales and marketing at Young Minds, said that the DVD Studio is also available with a CD-R drive to allow customers to choose the best media for each data set they need to record. He said: "DVD Studio provides the speed and `horsepower' to run the DVR-5201 without any glitches. DVD Studio's unique controller-based architecture lets the recorder operate at roughly the equivalent of 9x CD speeds without affecting operation of the host computer. Considering the higher cost of DVD media, users will appreciate the assurance that DVD Studio provides, particularly when DVD Studio is attached to a server running a myriad of daemons and network tasks. By including an 8x or 12x CD-R drive, users also have the option of creating CD-R discs for cost-effective storage of smaller volumes of data."
A future implementation of DVD Studio, scheduled for release in the second quarter of this year, will attach to the Pioneer DRM-7000 FlexLibrary with one or more DVD-R drives. Designed as a high-end production system, this DVD Studio version can be used as a mediaconversion center. Once conversion is complete, the system can be used as an online library. Bolander said that Young Minds will continue to improve upon the system by adding greater functionality. "In the third quarter, we will offer a complete, turnkey read/write jukebox solution that combines the DRM-7000, DVD Studio, and Smart Storage Jukeman jukebox management software. This is truly a best-of-breed product that will be the leading high-end storage and archival solution for DVD," he said.
Founded in 1989, Young Minds, Inc. provides a complete line of network-capable DVD- and CD-Recording solutions that works with UNDO, Linux, and Windows NT operating systems.
