Web publishers can now test online publishing management for free, via a fully functional trial CD-ROM or download of the new TurboPress system (available from http:H www.turbopress.com). When launched at the Seybold San Francisco 99 conference, TurboPress was described as reflecting the "true spirit"
"When people see the broad range of functions TurboPress offers, they realize how limited their current operations are," said development director Peter Hyde. "Serving the Web market can be very expensive and time-consuming. And it's hard to evaluate the limited solutions available, as few provide a clear idea of what they offer. TurboPress changes all that. "
The comprehensive system is tightly targeted at publishing needs, offering automated site structure and construction; automated indexing for fast full-text searching and archiving; e-commerce facilities, including credit card validation and online ordering with secure server support-, flexible subscriber access; and strong customizable communications. Once installed, it can be handled by clerical staff, cutting support costs and boosting site services significantly.
The free trial includes all the features of TurboPress Lite ($8,995) and some of the powerful TurboPress Pro functions, including advanced search and communications, and scripting support as well as advertising management and site traffic analysis. TurboPress Pro also has strong remote administration support-one TurboPress-supported publication is published in Denmark, managed in New Zealand, and hosted in California.
TurboPress Enterprise modules support high-content, high-traffic periodicals. Lite and Pro can be incrementally upgraded with individual advanced modules. At a base license price of $19,995, TurboPress Pro is reportedly one-fifth the cost of comparable systems, and offers a greater range of features vital for successful online periodical management.
