New ownership at Farmers coincides with moves at the top of its marketing department. Former general manager marketing Fiona Hyland left in early July to take time with her young family. Her departure opened up a gap for former marketer Dean Cook to return to Farmers after a three-year absence. Dean's
title is head of marketing. The restructuring is part of the Norman family's changes to the business, which include a more hands-on approach.Dean had left Farmers three years ago to cover for the then marketing manager of Kachingo who was taking maternity leave. He later took over as marketing director. When Kachingo folded, Dean was appointed general manager of promotion material logistics specialists Malcove.Earlier this year Farmers Trading Co shifted its advertising account from Singleton Ogilvy & Mather to Colenso.99 and its direct marketing account to Tequila. Over at Malcove, an operations manager has been brought in to handle the day-to-day running of the business and the company is scouting for a salesperson to join its team.Still on the topic of reshuffling jobs: BNZ has reorganised its agribusiness financial services department to bring it into line with its other units. Richard Borrell's previous role as head of business development and marketing and operations (agribusiness) has been split. He holds on to the operations side while Gillian Munnik takes over as head of business development and marketing for the department. She was previously responsible for developing loyalty and reward programmes. Meanwhile, Chris Gourley shifts up to sales and delivery manager, taking over from Wendy Herrick who is now with Qantas. Chris was previously based in Christchurch as area manager for personal financial services.Just in: DB Breweries has reshuffled its marketing people. It's taken on Mark Davidson as its new general manager - marketing. In a related move, the company is shifting former brand manager - new product development Rene de Monchy up to become its group brands manager - premium brands. No word yet on who, if anyone, takes over Rene's old role. Originally from South Africa, Mark has seven years' experience with South African Breweries, plus more recent experience in Sydney with Arnott's/Campbells, Southcorp and Miranda Wines.Way to go? Brits can now watch ads 24/7 thanks to the launch of The Ad Channel. The channel features 'programmes' showing, dissecting and reminiscing about ads plus 'breaks' with, you guessed it, ads in them. Rumour has it that the developers even considered running mini-programmes (Blue Peter in three minutes, for example) to take the place of traditional ad breaks. A BBC commentator queried when viewers should schedule their tea and loo breaks.Professional speakers agency Celebrity Speakers takes on Gaye Billings as a sales consultant. Gaye's background includes sales and marketing roles for non-profit, publishing and service industries including a stint way back when at Auckland-based AGM Publishing. With communications manager Lee McNicholl heading off to set up her own company, Christchurch International Airport Ltd (CIAL) is taking the chance to rejig how it handles comms and marketing. Marketing manager Glenn Wedlock says Lee will carry on handling the internal comms part of her old job under contract. Glenn is taking over external comms and marketing while the incoming person will help coordinate marketing and comms. Glenn says CIAL expects to be nutting out the specifics in early August and hopes the new person will be on board by early September. North Port Events director Dona White was voted onto the board at the recent AGM. Dona says her priorities include lifting the professionalism of the industry, improving research, and educating members and marketers on the power of the medium. Auckland University's marketing department will include a course component on exhibitions and events later this year.Dona also wants to sort out OSH anomalies which currently lump exhibitions in with construction sites when looking at safety issues. Dona says the Australians are so much more advanced than us at being able to quantify the benefits of exhibitions and events to the economy as a whole. New Zealand has about 25 members in the EEAA compared with Australia's 300.Kim Moleta has joined technology solutions company Gen-i as client director for the government sector. He moves over from EDS where he was a client sales exec on the Telecom account. His role hasn't yet been filled at EDS.In a move designed to provide links between its regional and national office, Flight Centre has created two new roles for product development managers. Both positions have been filled inhouse, with Jo Emerre taking over the Wellington job and Nicky de Clifford the South Island one. The two are also tasked with promoting Flight Centre's products and services to retail consultants.Marisa Chahel is taking over as interim communications manager at Turners & Growers/ENZA following the departure of Kylie Hawker. The two campaigns are now automatically eligible for entry into the International Globe Awards in the US in November.Well-known relationship marketing company Carlson Marketing Group is merging with the Peppers & Rogers Group in New Zealand. The local merger follows a similar move in the US late last year when Carlson acquired Peppers & Rogers on a global basis. In New Zealand, Peppers & Rogers will move into Carlson Marketing's head office in Newmarket, Auckland but keep its own corporate identity. Rachel joins GlaxoSmithKline from Merck Sharp & Dohme where she was most recently a product manager within the company's musculoskeletal franchise. Before that, she was with Aventis Pharmaceuticals.
