Ernst & Young admitted Adeel Jivraj as a partner in its New Yorkbased asset management practice. Before joining the firm, he was Assistant Chief Accountant for the Division of Investment Management at the SEC. He is a "boomerang" - before joining the SEC, he was a senior manager at E&Y.
Friedman LLP of New York admitted the following to partnership: Muriel Cheng, Ron Frimmer, and Michael Naparstek.
Previously, all were principals at the firm. Cheng specializes in tax resolution issues and is based in New York. Frimmer, also based in New York, handles complex audit engagements. Naparstek, based in the East Hanover, NJ. office, works in quality control and with publicly-held clients. Thomas G. Rotherham, former CEO and president of RSM McGladrey, joined Grant Thornton as U.S. managing partner of client service. He is based in Chicago. Rotherham is responsible for the firm's client services practices and will help expand the firm's services to and relationships with private equity firms. He'll report to GT COO Shelley Stein. In other GT news, Jarod Allerheiligen assumes the role of MP of the firm's Wichita office in August. He succeeds Gary Allerheiligen, 58. Gary will remain with the firm as a tax partner. Jarod and Gary are distant relatives. Previously, Jarod was special assistant to GT CEO Ed Nussbaum. Mike Altschaefl, partner in charge of GT's Milwaukee office, was named Wisconsin MP. He will oversee the firm's operations and growth in GT's four Wisconsin locations: Milwaukee, Madison, Fond du Lac and Appleton. Altschaefl succeeds David Klumpyan, who will lead GT's growth plans for the northeastern Wisconsin markets.
Robert DeMeola and Jerome C. Donovan were elected to the management committee of J.H. Cohn of Roseland, N.J. DeMeola is partner-in-charge of the New York office and is partner-in-charge of the firm's Real Estate Services Group. Donovan is the Eatontown, N.J., office's marketing partner and a representative for the firm's Legal Services Group. The management committee is responsible for determining the strategic and operational direction of the firm. J.H. Cohn, which has FY06 net revenue of $143.4 million, 96 partners, 722 total staff and eight offices.
KPMG named Lord Michael Hastings as global head of Corporate Social Responsibility. The position is newly created. Hastings joins the firm from the BBC, where he was also head of corporate social responsibility.
Parente Randolph of Philadelphia hired Jason S. Hall as chief information officer. Hall is based in the Philadelphia and WilkesBarre, Pa., offices. Previously, he was director of IT at Pinkerton Computer Consultants. PR has FY05 net revenue of $60 million, 59 partners, 450 total staff and 13 offices.
PricewaterhouseCoopers is creating a new unit in Japan to help retain major clients such as Toyota Motor Corp. The unit is being positioned as a "new and permanent independent audit firm," according to a PwC statement. It will operate under a new management and governance structure. Additional details are to be released soon. The unit was created in response to scandals involving Chuo Aoyama PwC. That PwC partner was ordered by Japanese regulators to halt operations from July 1 through Aug. 31, and three of its former accountants pleaded guilty in March to charges stemming from falsified financial statements.
Kari Williamson joined Singer Lewak Greenbaum & Goldstein of Los Angeles as partner in the SEC Services Practice Group. Previously, she worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers. SLG&G has 25 partners, more than 200 total staff and three offices.
James Hayden joined the Baltimore office of Smart & Assoc. of Devon, Pa., as partner of accounting and assurance services. Previously, he worked at the firm's Devon office. Smart has FY05 net revenue of $77 million, 55 partners, 560 total staff, and eight offices.
