Survey on the way

Publication: Charter
Date: Monday, May 1 2000

The Institute's IT Chapter has given the University of Queensland a research grant to discover how information technology is used by Australian accounting firms in external financial report audit engagements.

The survey will be carried out by a questionnaire posted to the senior auditor in

each accounting firm, as identified from the ICAA database. The complexity of the survey makes it impractical to post on the Web. The questionnaire itself was developed with the extensive help

of a Big 5 firm, three second-tier firms, and a non-metropolitan firm.

It is expected that the survey data will provide auditors with the opportunity to benchmark their audit-related information technology status against other offices and firms. For more information, turn to page 55
