Business Glossary

Definitions for: productivity measures
productivity measures

related to the efficiency, mix, and yield variances. They can be developed for both manufacturing and service entities, although the latter may sometimes find that output is difficult to measure. Productivity is the relationship between outputs and inputs (including the mix of inputs). The higher this ratio, the greater the productivity. Improvements in productivity depend on technical efficiency and input trade-off efficiency. A process becomes more technically efficient when, for any set of inputs that will produce a given output, nonvalue-added activities are eliminated and valueadded activities use the minimum resources needed to produce the given output.
