Australia probes Korean dumping. (Asia).

Date: Saturday, December 1 2001

Australia is expected to launch an antidumping investigation into hot-rolled steel from South Korea, South Africa and Thailand, according to a report filed by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency's Sydney office.

The investigation follows the suit filed by OneSteel, Australia's

major long products steelmaker, which alleged that imports of low-priced products from these three countries have caused considerable damage to the Australian steel industry.

The steel products Australia imported for the year to October are subject to the antidumping investigation, and parties cited in the case are required to submit statements by January 9. The investigators must release their final report by May 4.
