Austeel sign A$2.5M contract for Newcastle mill. (contracts).

Austeel of Australia has signed a A$2.5M (US$1.24M) contract with the Danieli Group for the construction of its Newcastle steel mill complex.

Austeel announced its plans for the A$3bn ($1.49bn) project in February. The mill complex will consist of a complete turnkey operation, three

electric arc furnaces, three ladle furnaces, two thin slab casters, a thick slab caster, a hot strip temper mill and a cold mill complex. The plant is expected to produce 3.85Mt of finished steel products each year. Construction will begin in the second half of 2002 and will be completed over an approximate three-year period.
