DaimlerChrysler's Trenton, MI, engine plant placed a threeyear contract with Quaker Chemical Management Services giving it sole responsibility for all metalworking fluids at that operation, including coolants, hydraulic fluids, lubricants, biocides, and process and maintenance cleaners.

Truck Corp. has adopted Magma Foundry Technologies' suite of process-simulation software. The purchase includes MagmaSoft and related modules (Magmalron, MagmaSteel, MagmaStress, and MagmaLink) to simulate intricate details of metalcasting, and to help in design review and process optimization.

Richmond Casting Co., an iron-casting foundry in Richmond, IN, has idled some operations and laid off about onethird of its workforce, due to competition from low-cost imported products.

Caterpillar has got U.S. E.P.A. certification for its second engine design with the ALERT (advanced combustion emission reduction technology), which is called a "long-term emissions solution" for trucks, buses, construction equipment, and mining equipment to meet future regulations for on- and off-highway engines.
