Q&A with Maryann Roefaro, CEO, Hematology-Oncology Associates of CNY.

* What obstacles have you overcome?

The biggest obstacle I overcame was the death of my mother when I was 14 years old.

* How do you balance your home or personal life and work?

As one of our kids put it to my nephew, who made a comment on how much fun it would be to live with us, "There are more rules here than in jail." Balance comes from lots of love and structure. Love to make life worth living and structure to keep out the clutter and allow for cooperation and accountability.

* What is your advice to other women who want to succeed?

Continue to understand who you are and put forth much love and effort in the never-ending journey of the mastery of self. Love what you do, hold yourself and everyone else accountable, work hard, and autograph everything you do with excellence.

* What do you think is the greatest challenge facing women in business in the next five years?

The same challenge facing men. We live and work in an illusion that necessitates high speed and incredible accuracy, precision, and productivity. This yields high stress and a genuine challenge to maintain balance, inner peace, and harmony within our families, our work teams, and ourselves.
