Daresha Kyi gained critical acclaim with her two narrative films, 'The Thinnest Line' and 'Land Where My Fathers Died.' According to Kyi, much of her work is greatly influenced by Afrocentrism and humanism. She has likewise expressed reluctance in tailoring her films for a 'crossover' audience. In an interview, Kyi discusses the potential of mass-distributing a work of an uncompromising black filmmaker, the portrayal of black women in contemporary cinema, and the obstacles that she faces as a young black woman filmmaker.
