Local Sports Foundation & Nt'l Girls Advocate Team up to Prove
Girls can be Their OWN Role Models
WHAT: ThisSaturday, Chicago's girls will get a sporting chance and a glimpse of how to make their dreams a reality when some 500 local girls gather for a full day of inspirational sports workshops highlighting the benefit of athletic participation & positive female role models. Chicago-based A Sporting Chance Foundation (ASCF) & National Girls Advocate and Get Real Girl co-founder Julz Chavez, are teaming up to inspire girls to get off the sidelines & into the game. Together with a roster of high-profile female athletes - including renowned professional racecar drIver, Lyn St. James, they will show our girls they CAN make their own adventures a reality. WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 7 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. WHERE: Windy City Fieldhouse 2367 West Logan Blvd. Chicago, IL 60647 SEE: Approximately 500 Chicago girls, grades 1st - 7th, participating in hands-on, heart-pumping activities, including: basketball, soccer, in-line skating, wall-climbing/adventure education, volleyball track, & fencing. The free event will include many underprivileged girls from the Chicago Public Schools, Girls Scouts & local community organizations. HEAR:

Julz Chavez - National Girls Advocate & Get Real Girl Founder
Chavez has dedicated her life to empowering girls. Growing up in the family of late labor activist Cesar Chavez, Julz knows first-hand the power of being Your Own Role Model. Chavez is creator of Get Real Girl, the first line of action/adventure dolls promoting positive self-images through sports adventures, which were referred to by the New York Times as a "Role Model's New Clothes."
Kathy Chuckas - ASCF Executive Director
Named a "Hero Award" winner by the Juvenile Protective Agency, ASCF Executive Director & Chicago resident Kathy Chuckas leads the five-year-old organization to help reduce the barriers young girls face in sports & life.
Lyn St. James - Professional Race Car Driver
Lyn St. James has set 31 national & international speed records during her professional racing career & is renowned as one of the top racecar drivers in the world. Lyn's many honors include Sports Illustrated for Women's Top-100 Women Athletes of the Century, Working Woman Magazine's 350 Women Who Changed the World & serving as former president of the Women's Sports Foundation.
