NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2000
A software engineer mobilizes young people to address human rights violations and ensure safe working conditions; a lawyer managing film acquisitions works to support human rights for women worldwide; a morning
These individuals are three of the 10 Time Warner employees who are honored today for their extraordinary volunteer efforts at the 19th annual ceremony of the Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards. The long-standing award is named for former Time Inc. chairman Andrew Heiskell and is the most prestigious recognition for Time Warner's employees active in community service. The awards will be presented at a luncheon held at the Time and Life Building in Manhattan. Each award recipient will receive $5,000 from Time Warner. Three thousand dollars will be donated to the nonprofit organization of the winner's choice and $2,000 will be a personal gift.
The event, hosted by Time Warner Chairman and CEO Gerald Levin and President Richard Parsons, further reinforces the company's support for employee awareness of and involvement in social issues.
"Each year, the Heiskell Awards give us the chance to recognize and celebrate the unsung heroes in our midst here at Time Warner," said Levin. "I am proud to call these individuals my colleagues and am humbled by their commitment to their communities."
While these 10 remarkable individuals tirelessly support a diverse range of causes, from homelessness to inner city economic development to equal rights for gays and lesbians, they share one commonality: They each recognized a critical need, found a way to address it and have continued to crusade with passion and deep commitment.
"Anyone can be an activist," said award recipient Taina Bien-Aime. "When people become aware of the many injustices going on in our country and around the world, and understand they can help change those situations, it is very powerful."
