Great tie in with stories about diversity, women of color and

women in the

workplace

    THE REASONS:

-- Women of color hold less than 2% of corporate board seats on
        the Fortune 500. (Catalyst)

-- Black women earn 64 cents to the white man's dollar; Hispanic
women earn 52 cents to the white man's dollar. (BLS)

-- According to Catalyst, while women of color have made recent
advances in corporate America, they are not optimistic about
        continued successes.

    THE LIST:

In its June 2003 issue, Working Mother magazine will publish the
first list of the "Best Companies for Women of Color" identifying
companies doing the best and most for women of color.

    THE EVENT:

Building on the energy generated at the 2002 Women of Color
Summit, the Women of Color Town Hall brings together corporate
executives, public policy and human resource professionals, as well as
journalists and academics to stimulate a national discussion on the
advancement of women of color.

    THE HISTORY:

Since its inception in 1979, Working Mother magazine has
continually taken an advocacy role. In 1986, the publication launched
its prestigious "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" list, which
grew into a powerful instrument for change. Corporate America now sees
a place on the list today as a badge of honor. Working Mother
anticipates that the "Best Companies for Women of Color" list will
create a dialogue about best practices for women of color and emerge
as a similar fulcrum for change.
