NEW YORK -- The Citigroup Employee Community Fund has awarded grants for 2005 totaling $400,000 to 40 nonprofit organizations with programs that support health and human services in the New York Tri-State area. The grants were presented today to the recipient organizations during a breakfast held

at Citigroup Center, 153 East 53rd Street, New York City.

"Our New York Tri-State Community Fund program aptly reflects our commitment to help make life better in the local communities because we are there," said Eric Eve, Senior Vice President of Community Relations for Citigroup's Global Consumer Group. "We are pleased to have this added opportunity to support very specific needs in our communities and salute the fine work of the nonprofit organizations receiving these funds."

Established by Citibank employees in 1998, the Citigroup Employee Community Fund is a charitable giving program that is funded with contributions from employees and the Citigroup Foundation. Recipients of grants from the fund, which in 2005 continues to target organizations supporting health and human services programs, are selected by a review committee made up of Citigroup employees. To date, over $2.3 million has been awarded through the Citigroup Employee Community Fund.

In 2005, Citigroup enhanced the Community Fund by hosting a one-day "Hands on Proposal Writing" workshop, led by Alisa Baratta of the Nonprofit Connection. Over 130 Tri-state community based organizations were invited to participate, including health and human service organizations applying for the program. The workshop guided nonprofits through the step-by-step grant writing process. The Nonprofit Connection is a not-for-profit technical assistance organization dedicated to building and strengthening the capacity of the broad range of non-profits that serve New York City's diverse communities.
