Women Pharmacists Earning Top Pay and Other Higher Paying Career Choices for Moms

Wednesday, July 1 2009

Just starting off on the college path and looking for a job that not only interests you personally but that offers great pay, too?

Or maybe you've been considering a career change because the one you have just isn't exciting anymore.

If this fits you, working moms, you might want to consider heading into a pharmacist's degree.

Forbes recently put together a top-paying job for women survey and it seems women pharmacists are scoring big in the payroll department, earning an average of $86,000 per year - or $1,647 per week. Great news, isn't it? And even better - pharmacists require less education than other doctors and the pay gap between men and women is less as well.

Another nice perk of becoming a pharmacist include the hours, which are much more manageable than the typical doctor's schedule, when you might be working around the clock for days on end. This, of course, makes family time much easier.

Some scheduling downsides do exist. Some pharmacists are expected to work weekends and holidays, which can certainly cut into family time.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job opportunities in this field are expected to grow through 2016.

Forbes also found that women who work in the field of speech pathology earn the same as men and those in the computer science field are earning about $56,000 per year on average.
