Gamunex gets new security features.

A leading manufacturer of immunoglobulin products has instituted new packaging security measures to foil counterfeiters.

Talecris Biotheraputics, a recent spinoff of Bayer, has instituted the security measures for Gamunex intravenous immunoglobulin. Security is vital for immunoglobulin

products, both because of their high value and because they're liable to lose potency if stored above room temperature.

The new Gamunex security measures include a new company logo that will appear on the vial label, carton, package insert, and clear plastic shrink-banding covering the neck and lid of the bottle. Other features include a color-coded flag tab at the edge of the label, bearing the vial size and strength, lot number and date of manufacture; and a bar code on the vial that can be linked to a patient's chart.
